SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 13) – Fresh off a highly successful Monster Energy Supercross season, GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda 450 racer Eli Tomac is ready to attack the AMA Pro Motocross circuit, which kicks off this weekend with the Hangtown Classic.

Tomac won three Supercross races and finished second in the overall points standings.

“Supercross is a long season, and it was my first full season doing Supercross, so the little break was nice,” Tomac said. “But of course I love racing my GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda, so we’re ready to get back going this weekend. Hangtown is a cool place, and it’ll be great to race there again.”

Tomac finished fifth in the 450 Motocross points standings a year ago, his first full season on the big bike. He won once, and then he turned in a stellar Supercross season in 2015.tomac vegassx2015

“I’m not sure what’s clicking, but something is,” Tomac said. “I’m feeling pretty good. I don’t see any reason why we can’t continue to run well outdoors after we did so well in Supercross. The team is working hard and working well, and we’re hoping the momentum continues.”

Tomac finished the Supercross season with six consecutive podium finishes, including two victories. While the bikes and riders remain the same, the tracks and race procedures are different for Motocross. Tracks are built into the dirt, often into rolling terrain, and riders must negotiate two motos in order to contend for top finishes.

But Tomac is known for his physical fitness, training with his father John, a prominent mountain racer, in their home state of Colorado.

“Motocross races can be a grind, especially during the summer,” Tomac said. “But that’s why we train so hard in the off-season and during the season. We’ve been working on Motocross for a while now, and I believe we’re ready to go and do well.”

Action begins Saturday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. ET from the Hangtown Classic, in Sacramento. Catch the second motos live on NBCSN at 7:00 p.m. ET.
