INSIDE LINE: AMSOIL Goes... Snowboarding?

by AMSOIL Racing | Jan 26, 2012
Snocross racer turns to a new discipline at ESPN's Winter X Games.

AMSOIL has a long history of sponsoring all things motorized, and the company has worked with Winter X Games athletes in snocross and snowmobile freestyle events. But with a new year comes a new twist, and this year AMSOIL will work hand-in-hand with a snowboarder.

As a disclaimer, the athlete isn't necessarily new, but the sport still is. Mike Schultz has raced under the Team AMSOIL moniker for the past two years in adaptive snocross and the Pro Vet class in the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series. This weekend, Schultz will take on a new sport at Winter X: Adaptive Snowboarder X.

Snowboarder X is basically a race down the hill, or X Course. Schultz has been practicing for the new X Games event, and is even bringing his sponsors along for the new ride.

"This is going to be a lot of fun," said Schutlz. "I've been practicing and it's just great to be part of X Games again."

Winter X Games starts Thursday, January 26. Schultz will race on Friday and Saturday, but the exhibition event is not scheduled to be televised.

X Games programming note: AMSOIL freestyle rider Justin Hoyer will be in two events at Winter X. On Thursday, he is a favorite to win Gold in Snowmobile Freestyle. On Sunday, he will compete in Best Trick, and is currently planning on a double-backflip. Hoyer's events will be televised on ESPN at 9:00 pm EST.
