DAYTONA, Fla. (March 3) – Leaving Atlanta’s doubleheader on an upswing after securing a runner-up finish last Saturday, GEICO/AMSOIL/Honda rider Eli Tomac is hoping to ride his recent wave of momentum to the next stop on the Monster Energy Supercross schedule this Saturday in Daytona.
Currently fourth in the championship points standings, Tomac is determined to make up as much ground as possible by securing another win in the sport’s premier class.
“It was great to have a strong race in Atlanta,” Tomac said. “Obviously, I would have loved to have been one spot higher, but I’m not going to complain about a good run and a podium finish. Hopefully, though, I can move up that last step of the podium this weekend in Daytona.
“Another main event win would definitely help my season’s cause. With the way my bike is running, I think a second win is more than possible. Who knows, maybe it’ll happen as soon as the race this weekend.”
Trying to keep himself in championship contention and with past success at Daytona International Speedway, Tomac is hoping to continue that trend when he returns to the track this Saturday.
“Daytona is always a fun event to race in,” Tomac said. “The track requires a little bit different preparation than the other courses we’ve raced so far this season. I’ll use this week to work on transitioning over to the sand conditions and go from there.
“With how the second Atlanta race went, I think this weekend will be a success as well. Hopefully I can use that momentum and build off of it even more throughout the day.”
Live coverage of the event starts at 7 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
